“We are very excited to share our music with the community this December,” said FCO Music Director Andrew David Perkins. “It’s always special to invite our audience to participate in the magic that happens every Thursday night at rehearsal, and we’ve got some really unique works to present.” Local musicians Lisa Marchand (violin) and Joe Snider (cello) will be featured soloists on a modern arrangement of the ancient tune Greensleeves. Prokofiev’s Troika will take the audience on a sleigh ride, and Byzantine Dances by Carol Brittin Chambers will get their feet tapping to the beat. Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain will evoke an ominous mood and features Freeman Tucker on clarinet and Olivia Guerrero on flute. Perkins continued, “I think our program shows the broad range of human experience, and anyone joining us at the concerts will find something to connect with on a personal level. I’m also very much looking forward to Simply Strings’ performance under the baton of Jane Ball. She does fantasti work with this group.” Simply Strings is the FCO’s partner orchestra for advancing musicians. They have been busy preparing the Capriol Suite by Warlock, Bach’s Contrapunctus I, a Celtic carol and an arrangement of I Saw Three Ships.
Fenton High School is an accessible facility. Those requiring special accommodation are encouraged to email fentoncommunityorchestra@gmail.com or call 810-390-5020. The FCO is proud to present free concerts so that those of any background may attend. ALL are welcome!
The FCO’s 16th season is sponsored by Marathon Flint Oil and Choice One Bank. Business Council sponsors include Fenton’s Open Book and Integrative Training Systems. The FCO is also supported in part by matching grants from Share Art Genesee distributed by Greater Flint Arts Council (funded by the Genesee County Arts Education and Cultural Enrichment Millage), Michigan Arts and Culture Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Fenton Community Fund – a division of the Community Fund of Greater Flint.
