It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) follows George Bailey, a kind-hearted man in the small town of Bedford Falls who has spent his life putting others first. Though he dreams of traveling the world and building great things, circumstances repeatedly force him to give up his ambitions—taking over his father’s building and loan business, supporting his family, and protecting the town from the greedy tycoon Mr. Potter.

When a financial crisis leads George to believe he’s worth more dead than alive, he contemplates ending his life on Christmas Eve. His guardian angel, Clarence, intervenes and shows him what the world would look like if he had never been born.
